WATCH: Drew Brees Gives Emotional Speech as Steve Gleason Receives Congressional Gold Medal

Former New Orleans Saints football player, Steve Gleason received the prestigious Congressional Gold Medal yesterday.  Gleason has worked relentlessly in the fight against ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease” since being diagnosed with the disease himself in 2011.  His efforts promoting awareness, research, and support have earned him the Congressional Gold Medal, joining other noteworthy figures such as Mother Teresa of Calcutta, the Wright Brothers, Charles Lindbergh, Thomas Edison, Dr. Jonas Salk and astronauts Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins.

New Orleans Saints legend Steve Gleason receives Congressional Gold Medal

In a moving ceremony at the U.S. Capitol’s historic Statuary Room on Wednesday, Jan. 15, New Orleans Saints legend Steve Gleason received the Congressional Gold Medal, becoming the first former NFL player to receive the award.
