NASA’s Perseverance Mars Rover delivered a truly stunning photo – a giant rainbow stretching over the Martian landscape.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t real.
The photo wasn’t doctored in any way, but NASA clarified that the ‘rainbow’ was actually just lens flare. NASA tweeted that rainbows are actually impossible on Mars due to the lack of water droplets in the atmosphere.
We’ll get even more great Mars photos soon, once the Ingenuity drone helicopter takes flight later this month.
NASA shared a photo from Mars that appears to show a rainbow on the red planet. But NASA said it’s actually just the result of lens flare. “Rainbows aren’t possible here,” it added. See more stories on Insider’s business page.
