It’s the return of our ‘Battle for the Paddle’ shrimp cook-off on June 25, 2022.
The Delcambre Fire Department is hosting the return of an event that has been a favorite for many years the Battle for the Paddle helps support the department and the 20+ firefighters and over 30+ active members, including junior firefighters and support members.
Despite Covid-19 restrictions, the department was still able to respond to 280 calls during 2021. These calls not only consist of fires, but also medical calls, motor vehicle accidents, assistance during inclement weather, and many other emergency needs, such as suspected gas leaks and downed power lines. As of May 1st, they had already responded to 144 calls for 2022.
The department does receive a budget from both Iberia and Vermillion parishes, but this is not nearly enough to cover all the expenses of the department to run efficiently and safely on a daily basis.
Delcambre Fire Department continues to maintain a Class 4 PIAL rating, which is very good for a small lower funded community. The PIAL rating directly affects the community and what residents pay for fire insurance. With continuous changes in regulations, the department is still in need of equipment to meet the National Fire Protection Association standards and State of Louisiana requirements. These items ensure our department maintains the best services to our community and high ratings for our PIAL inspections.
