After four years of battling it out in court, Bill Paxton’s family has settled their wrongful death lawsuit against Cedars-Sinai.
Paxton’s family says the attending physician, Dr. Ali Khoynezhad, acted “negligently, carelessly, recklessly and unskillfully,” performing an “unconventional” surgery that added unnecessary post-surgical risks.
On February 25, 2017, Paxton suffered a fatal stroke 11 days after undergoing heart surgery to fix damage to his aorta and replace a heart valve. The actor was 61 years old.
The family accepted a partial settlement with an anesthesiologist’s medical group that agreed to pay $1 million. The new settlement is pending a judge’s approval and will remain confidential.
