January 6 Committee To Issue At Least 3 Criminal Referrals For Trump

The House January 6 Committee is expected to make at least 3 criminal referrals to the Department of Justice during its final meeting Monday.

The committee, comprised of 7 Democrats and 2 anti-Trump Republicans will present its findings after an 18-month probe.  Former President Donald Trump and some of his allies did not give testimony and downplayed the panel’s legitimacy.  Trump has called the investigation a political witch hunt.

Representative Andy Biggs, R-Ariz., defied a subpoena by the committee and said:

“The committee operates with the same kind of bias present at the Salem witch trials.  Everyone is guilty and must demonstrate their innocene.”

Some Republicans are pledging to investigate the panel’s activities once in power in the House of Representatives next year.

NBC reported that the committee will vote to urge the Justice Department to pursue criminal charges against the former president including obstructing an official proceeding, conspiracy to defraud the government, and inciting or assisting an insurrection.
