Joe Diffie Passes Three Years Ago

Country Legend Joe Diffie passed on March 29th, 2020 his son has stayed engaged with his fans for the last three years on social media and posted a heartfelt request on Tuesday to mark the somber anniversary.

 
 

Diffie’s legacy in country music is huge, as his influence has inspired some of today’s biggest stars. While Diffie did not succeed enormously in the 1990s like some of his counterparts, Diffie always delivered timeless songs. A generation of country fans look at water towers across the country and the medley to John Deere Greene pops into your head.

 
 

Afternoon Drive Host Eric White shared, “I remember so vividly the day word came that Diffie had passed away. I have never had a conversation with a wiser man and not thought,’ we bitch about a dollar when there are those without a dime’ Diffie was truly one of those artists that spoke through his music to you. I cried the day he passed.”

 
 

Diffie charted 35 singles on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, five of which peaked at number one: his debut release “Home”, “If the Devil Danced (In Empty Pockets)”, “Third Rock from the Sun”, “Pickup Man”, and “Bigger Than the Beatles”. In addition to these singles, he had 12 others reach the top 10 and ten more reach the top 40 on the same chart. He also co-wrote singles for Holly Dunn, Tim McGraw, and Jo Dee Messina, and recorded with Mary Chapin Carpenter, George Jones, and Marty Stuart.

 
 

Diffie died from complications related to COVID-19 during the pandemic on March 29, 2020, at the age of 61.
